Ron Rossi found a deeply-rooted passion for the Peruvian Amazon while attending an Educator’s Workshop in the Summer of 1995.
Upon his return, he vowed to bring students there to see it with their own eyes and gain a perspective that could change their lives – and then, their world. Quite a lofty goal for a professional photographer and visual-imaging specialist who, at that time, was not an educator at all.
He continued traveling to the Amazon annually, taking whoever would go along. Eventually he found himself teaching high-school technology and his dream of leading student expeditions took off. Through his popular Project Term offering at Academy of the Sacred Heart in Bloomfield Hills, MI, he has introduced hundreds of young women, on the cusp of college and adulthood, to the magic of the Amazon rainforest and its people.
Every summer he offers the same experience to others and over the years, there developed a collective interest in giving back to the region. To this end, Ron founded EKOAMAZON with the intention of providing an infrastructure to help sustain life in the region that stole his heart over 20 years ago.
